Copy of a typed manuscript by an unidentified author describing Wheaton's career as an engineer with the Mexican boundary survey and other United States survey parties from Texas to California between 1850 and 1854; his U.S. Army service in Viriginia during the Civil War; and his service in the Indian wars in the Western United States while stationed at Fort Leavenworth, Fort Kearney, and Fort Arbuckle, and other locations before and after the Civil War. The final paragraphs of the manuscript describe Wheaton's activities as commander of the Department of the Colorado.
